According to reports, Indonesian national Sodimedjo was born in 1870, making him 146 when he died.

The supercentenarian, who was known as Mbah Ghoto (Grandpa Ghoto) to his family, outlived four wives before eventually sucumbing to old age at his home in Central Java on Sunday.

If his birthdate of 1870 is true then it would mean that he was 43 at the start of World War I.

According to his family ( he had 5 children, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren ), Mbah Ghoto died following a short illness.

"Life is only a matter of accepting your destiny wholeheartedly," he said last year.
